$1.54 in the Playground

So today it rained and rained and rained and then finally stopped late this afternoon. After making a yummy dinner I asked Bob if he wanted to go out detecting at a school. He said SURE, he'd love to get out. We made a quick unanswered call to our detecting buddies Nadine and Steve. (No clue where they were, they never called back) and we headed out.

No one else was in the school yard, so we headed over to the playground equipment which has those lovely little pebbles to detect in. We found a few pennies, a set of diary keys and a small horse charm.

The detector started giving us all this chattering and I thought "WOW, the ground must be electrified" and we moved away to the soccer field and the detector settled down.

We detected for about an hour and found $1.54 in change and another key and some other tidbits.

It was getting dark (as it was 9pm) and Bob was hungry, so we decided to retire for the evening. :o)

JACKPOT, but got arrested 06-10-09

After eating a yummy dinner which Bob prepared (Pesto Chicken) and watching part of the news, I was really eager to get out and metal detect. We hadn't been out in a long time and I had been reading a metal detecting forum and had read everyone's awesome finds.

We jumped in the car and headed out to a public school, I didn't care that we were just going to detect around some playground equipment, I just wanted to get out there. Upon parking, we realized that we would be watched, some local people were having a baseball practice and some kids were on the playground equipment. We started detecting away from the kiddies and then they took off so we continued. WE FOUND NOTHING, not even a penny. We suspect someone else had been around as this spot had paid off really well for us in the past.

We hit a small sand box area when we were heading to the car and found only foil balls. Bob wanted to go to another school as at 8pm he really wanted to watch WIPEOUT on TV. lol The next school we drove too again had a baseball practice. "Let's go home" I said.

I then remembered that Bob had spoke to a neighbouring business owner who told us we were allowed to detect on their property but warned us that we'd probably find a lot of nails as the business before had used a lot of them.

First we started on the edge of our property. I got 3 good hits, but for some reason we couldn't locate them, the signal said 2" down yet we would dig 5" down and it would say 0" and our pinpointer wasn't picking it up. We decided to quickly head to the neighbouring business. We had a 1/2 hour before Bob's show was to start.

We first started near an old tree and located some siding. We then started near the fence and scored a dinky car and a piece of lego in the same hole. Then a Loonie, a Nickle, a couple of things we weren't sure of, and then a mini metal SLOT MACHINE, lol (No money inside) and then a Police Car dinky car (hahahaa, now you know why we titled the blog entry this way) lol Before we knew it, it was time to go in, we'll have to finish the property another night.

It was great to get out there again!
