Rice Lake

Mary's uncle owns a cottage on Rice Lake. We had been looking forward to going on vacation all summer long. We both took 3 days off of work to give ourselves a 5 day weekend up north with Mary's parents and her nephew Dawson. We brought all our metal detecting gear as well as our fishing rods, bathing suits, GPS for Geocaching and my violin to annoy the neighbours.

We drove up on Friday night and first thing Saturday Mary wanted to scan the property for loose change but only found 2cents and some rusty nails.

Later that afternoon we took a boat ride across the lake to a beach. Dawson was excited to help Mary look for treasure. We told him about the underwater container and we had to be very secretive with our finds so other
beach-goers wouldn't try claiming our finds as their lost goodies. While scanning we had a double hit.
Dawson dove down and came up with a platinum ring with several clear stones shouting "RING!" as Mary rushed to hush him she knocked the ring out of his hand back into the deep. Giggling at his excitement we re-found the ring and were able to not bring any further attention to our find. But for the rest of our stay on the beach Dawson wanted to look at the R. I. N. G. again though we told him he'd have to wait until we got back on the boat to leave. The only other thing we found was a mechano wheel, Maybe somebody else already scanned that beach earlier.

Sunday we went to a different beach further across the lake. Scanning back and forth we only found a quarter, dime and a pennies (36cents) as well as almost 30 beer caps.

Monday Mary's parents took Dawson into town leaving Mary and me alone in the cabin. Instantly we knew what to do. What we had been yearning to do with each other if we ever had private time to ourselves. So we made sure the van had driven off and my car was out on the laneway. Then we began and started scanning where the vehicles used to be parked and found $2.63!!!

Tuesday we went back to the beach further across the lake. While I got in some fishing with dad, Mary found $4.58 comprising of a toonie, a loonie, 3 quarters, 5 dimes, 4 nickles 8 pennies and a can opener.

We drove back on Wednesday after a fantastic vacation away adding $7.59 and a ring to our treasures.
